Isis was worshipped in Egypt from before 3000 BC as the great Mother Goddess. In the myth of Osiris and Horus, she is the real hero. After her evil brother Seth murders her husband Osiris, she retrieves his body even after Seth has cut it up into pieces , and puts it back together. Using magic that she connives out of Ra the sun god, she reinvigorates Osiris briefly and conceives her son Horus during this time. It takes great power to conceive a son with a dead man. She, while hiding from Seth in the marshes of the Nile delta, gives birth to her son Horus alone and raises him to manhood. Horus triumphs over Seth and avenges his father's death. Since Horus was identified closely with the pharaoh, this triumph over Seth was symbolic as the Pharaoh's continuing triumph over the forces of Chaos. However, this was only made possible by the power of love (sexual and maternal) as embodied in the godhead of Isis.

ISIS This pectoral of Isis was worked in square stitch using 15/0 hex beads. The surface embellishment is in 15/0 hex beads, charlottes, and larger beads. The turquoise beads in the fringe are real block turquoise and the scareb on her scarf is poppy jasper. Her hair fringe is done in black charlottes. Her necklace is 11/0 real bronze beads.
As the Egyptian "Queen of Heaven" her straps are stars worked on a midnight background made of 11/0 seed beads. Isis is often shown with wings around outstretched arms. Since here we see only her face and I needed a triangular piece to lead up to the straps, the wings on the side of her head seemed appropiate.
