Anubis is the half-brother of Horus being the son of Osiris and Nephtys (Isis's sister). He is depicted in Egyptian art as a jackal or jackal-headed man. He is the patron god of embalmers and the guardian of the necropolis. He is the patron god of embalmers because he assisted Isis with the embalming of Osiris and performed the first "Opening of the Mouth" ceremony on the mummy which is de vigour for Egyptian funerals. He traditionally guides the newly dead to the hall of Maat where the deceased's heart is weighed against the feather of Maat. If you fail this test, poof, off you go to the Devourer of Souls and that's the end of you, More commonly then Anubis guides the tested souls to the Afterlife.
This square stitch amulet pouch is done in 10/0 seeds and allegedly 9/0 3-cut black beads in the wig. I say alledgedly because it became apparent after a short while that these black beads were probably 12/0 and I had to make adjustments as I went along to keep it from puckering. I really like the glittering black beads in the wig and these were the only 3-cuts I had at the time, so I adjusted. It is perfect for funerals. If you go back to New Kingdom Home, there are two patterns for an Anubis amulet bag that you can make yourself. One is square sitich as like the one I made and since 90% of you have peyote as your favorite stitch, there is a pattern for a peyote bag. These square stitch amulet pouches: I actually make them flat : back to bottom to front, then adding 3-beads of square stitch and doing up the sides all the way round. The side square stitched beads that I use to close the pouch are a darker brown or purple in the pattern. i have also just substituted black beads for the 3-cuts in Anubis's wig. I have not shown the fringe pattern in the Anubis pattern: be creative.
