Using a lamp bead on the flap of an amulet bag has some advantages for the lamp bead: it provides a cushion. When you lean over, the lamp bead is protected by the back and bottom of the amulet bag. it means that is less likely to get broken by a chance ding.
Shown below is an amulet bag that I made to go with this lampwork iclicle. It is worked in square stitch with 13/0 charlottes. I call it St. Paul Winter.
Again, this bead was made by a local artist that I can't remember their name.
Technically , the "bead" below on the flap is not a lamp bead at all but a carved deer antler, it it seemed to fit in with the theme here. You might have seen this bag before at the About.com Beadwork gallery: Beached Seal.
The seal did't have any holes in it, so it is attached to the flap by strap of brick stitch through thr seal's flipper, and everthing was covered over by the foam (Miyuki fringe beads) of the waves. This piece was done in tubular brick stitch and the flap in flat brick stitch.
